The honu, or Hawaiian green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), is a long-lived marine reptile that is commonly seen nearshore in Hawaiʻi. Sea turtles must frequently surface to breathe. They may also come onshore to bask on the sand, warming up and resting deeply, and must not be disturbed.
