Dr. C. Peter Wagner is a scholar. But not just a scholar and teacher in mission training schools, he began as a missionary, and then also has been involved in shaping missions and the church, reforming them to Biblical contours. This commentary on Acts is in the same vein. It is not an ivory tower work, but is not for that reason less than scholarly. Rather, with scholarly study, Dr. Wagner sets forth Acts for what it is: not merely a historical book (though it is that!), but a book to show all subsequent generations of the followers of Jesus what can be expected. Dr. Wagner does not flinch from the hard questions, or make experience his guide. Rather, he allows the eternal Word of God in the book of Acts to be the standard for the church - the Ekklesia of Jesus, Messiah of Israel.In a public meeting to celebrate Passover in April 2012 (Hebrew year 5772), Chuck Pierce, one of Dr. Wagner's closest associates in the prayer movement to open new fields to make known the gospel of the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ, said this to Peter: "I know you are capable because you're a historian and you've got the best commentary on Acts that has ever been written because it makes Acts real today." This sums up my reason for adding this book to my extensive library of commentaries.
