ʻIʻiwi are in the group of Hawaiian honeycreepers, so named because they "creep" busily through nectar-bearing flowers. Once common, they are now mostly found above 5,000ft. in altitude where native forest is healthier and it is too cold for the introduced, disease-bearing mosquitos. Long, decurved bills fit perfectly into the native flowers they visit and pollinate.
