The ʻōhiʻa lehua tree is a species of flowering evergreen tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, that is endemic to the six largest islands of Hawaiʻi. The blossom nectar is a major food source for Hawaiian forest birds as well as a reminder of Pele, the deity of Kīlauea Volcano, who is associated with it.
