The Book of Leaves - A Beautiful Collection of Pressed Leaves & Flowers for Nature Lovers | Perfect for Home Decor, Scrapbooking & Gift Giving

Like the previous reviewers, I'm struck by the sensitivity & subtle beauty of these bare piano pieces, both lush & stark at once, something like a Romantic minimalism. The intelligence & feeling of earlier albums by the band Rachel's is found here in the solo work of Rachel Grimes, whose compositions are suffused with emotion that's all the more powerful for being so restrained at times. That emotion isn't spoon-fed to us -- we're called upon to listen deeply & wholly, right down to the marrow of our bones -- and yet it's always as light & fleeting as a single lost feather drifting on the autumn wind, never demanding or heavy-handed. In the midst of so much over-produced pop music geared to the lowest common denominator, it's a special pleasure to hear something as rich & fulfilling as this -- most highly recommended!
